| BYS
offers externally supported, transitional (3-18
months)accommodation for young people, aged between 15 and 25 yrs.
Transitional means tenants are able to stay in our housing for up to 18 months before being exited into long-term housing options. Externally Supported means that each tenant is allocated a support woker to assit them with living skills and any other support needs that may arise. NEW APPLICATION PROCESS BYS no longer manages a wait list for their housing program. The new process will involve BYS taking referrals once an expected vacancy has been identified. BYS will then advertise vacancies internally and externally and will take referrals from young people who meet the new eligibility criteria. Once a maximum of 5 referrals for any given vacancy have been received, BYS will close the application process and begin to assess the referrals. Once a suitable applicant has been identified, the applicant will be contacted and invited to have an interview with us. In the event the interview recognizes the applicant as a suitable tenant, an offer of housing will be made and all other applicants notified of the decision. If the first applicant interviewed is not found to be a suitable tenant for the particular vacancy, this process will be duplicated with the other 4 applicants until a suitable applicant is identified. Applicants are also asked to complete a Department of Housing "Application for Housing Assistance" form when applying for all future vacancies at BYS.
NEW ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA As previous, applicants to the BYS housing program must be between 15 and 25 years of age. They also must be eligible for Social Housing through the Department of Housing Queensland. As we are a SAAP funded transitional housing provider, who provides external support to all it's tenants, we feel it is important to prioritise young people who meet the following additional criteria,
